Privacy Policy
No account required · your tasks and history stay on your device
FocusNest has no account system, and nothing you create in it —
your tasks, focus sessions, notes and settings — is ever sent
anywhere. All of it stays in the app’s private storage on your
device.
The app does use the network for two purposes: to show advertisements,
supplied by Google AdMob, and to ask Google Play whether you hold a
subscription. Both are described in sections 3 and 4 below. Neither has
access to your tasks or your focus history.
1. What the app stores on your device
All of the following is stored in the app's private storage and never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it yourself:
- Tasks you create, including titles, icons, scheduled dates and times, priorities, and any checklist items
- Projects and tags you create
- Focus session history — start times, durations, which phase (focus or break), and any notes you attach to a session
- Your settings — theme, language, default session lengths, soundscape choice and volume
Uninstalling FocusNest removes all of it.
2. Data sharing
- We never sell your data, to anyone, for any purpose.
- Your tasks, sessions, notes and settings never leave your device. They are not sent to us, to our advertising partner, or to anyone else. We have no server and no account system, so there is nowhere for them to go.
- We ask you for no personal details — no name, no email address, no sign-in.
- The app does include Google’s advertising and billing components, and those do collect some information about your device — an advertising ID, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, and how you interact with the ads. That information goes to Google, not to us. Sections 3 and 4 set out exactly what and why.
3. Advertising
FocusNest displays ads through Google AdMob. To serve them, AdMob may collect:
- Your device’s advertising ID — a resettable identifier you control in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads
- Approximate location, inferred from your IP address. The app never requests location permission and cannot read your precise location.
- Device and app information, such as model, OS version and app version
This is handled by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy, not by us — we never receive it. AdMob has no access to anything you create in FocusNest.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, FocusNest asks for your advertising consent when you first open it, and you can change your answer at any time. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID from your device settings at any time, whichever region you are in.
4. Purchases and subscriptions
FocusNest offers an optional Premium subscription, sold and processed entirely by Google Play. We never see, handle or store your payment details — no card number, billing address or name ever reaches us or the app.
What this means in practice:
- Google Play processes the payment under Google’s Privacy Policy. The app asks Play whether a subscription is active and receives only a yes or no, together with the plan and its renewal state.
- That answer is stored on your device so the app knows you have paid while it is offline or still contacting Play. It is not sent anywhere.
- Managing or cancelling happens in the Google Play app, under Subscriptions. An app cannot cancel its own subscription.
Premium can also be unlocked temporarily by watching a rewarded ad. That is handled by AdMob as described above; the resulting ad-free period is recorded only on your device and can be ended at any time from the Premium screen.
5. Data you export yourself
FocusNest can export your data to a JSON file from Settings → Data → Export data. The app writes that file to the location you choose using the Android system file picker. Once you have exported it, that file is yours and outside the app's control — if you move it to cloud storage or send it to someone, it is covered by that service's privacy policy, not this one.
Importing a backup replaces the data currently in the app.
6. Android backup
FocusNest participates in Android's standard backup mechanism. If you have device backup enabled in your Android settings, your app data may be included in your device backup and stored in your own Google account. This is a function of Android and your Google account settings, not of FocusNest, and is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can exclude FocusNest from backup in your device's system settings.
7. Permissions and why they are used
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
To show the running-timer notification and tell you when a focus block or break ends |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE,
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE
|
To keep the timer running accurately while the app is in the background |
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM |
So a session ends at the exact time it is supposed to, rather than whenever the system next wakes the app |
WAKE_LOCK |
To keep the timer ticking correctly while the screen is off |
VIBRATE |
For the vibration on the session-complete notification |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
To restore scheduled task reminders after the device restarts |
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
|
To load advertisements. Nothing you create is sent over this connection. |
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID |
Lets the ads SDK read the advertising ID, so ads work correctly whether or not you consent to personalisation |
Apart from the advertising permissions, none of these are used to collect information about you, and none of them touch the data you create in the app.
8. Children
FocusNest is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone, including children.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it.
Future versions of FocusNest may add features that require a network connection or involve a third-party service. If that happens, this policy will be updated to describe exactly what is collected and by whom, and it will be updated before such a version is released — not afterwards. The description above applies to the version of the app currently published.
